An unnamed Florida Man donated 100 generators to the Bahamas after a historic hurricane ravaged the island. Alec Sprague was at a Costco in Jacksonville when he saw the man loading up on the pricey appliances. “ I was just in Cosco off Collin getting a generator (at $450 each) and this guy right here is purchasing over 100 generators and food to send to the Bahamas!” Sprauge posted on Facebook. “All I could do was shake his hand and thank him! There still are good people in the world!”
The post has received more than 39,000 likes and has been shared over 34,000 times since Wednesday. “ He’s very kind and caring person to help the people in the Bahamas affected by hurricane Dorian,” one person wrote.
The donation was part of the Errol Thurston Bahamas Hurricane Relief Fund , a GoFundMe
campaign that’s gathered more than $94,000. Launched by Mercedes Thurston, the campaign honors Thurston’s husband, Errol, a fishing guide in Abaco, Bahamas.
“Hurricane Dorian demolished this island; it’s the worst I ever seen. Bahamians are strong and the people of Abaco are even stronger,” Mercedes wrote. “We will keep praying and rebuild from the ground up. Your donations wIll help us purchase the supplies these families are in desperate need of at the moment for basic survival, such as water, food, toiletries, medical items, etc. We are also collecting and purchasing items that are needed for cleanup purposes and to begin rebuilding Abaco. We have several volunteers donating boats, planes, and fuel to help transport items over once it is safe to travel. This is an opportunity for us all to join together and help our neighbors rebuild their lives.”
Dorian hit the Bahamas as a Category 5 hurricane Sunday night, destroying homes and businesses and killing at least five people. Authorities estimate the damage to be in excess of $5 billion, but numerous individuals and organizations have offered generous support.
