Living Life in Fear: Insight into the Lives of Undocumented Immigrants

Posted on 02/10/16

For undocumented immigrants living in the United States, each day is a mystery: Will I be deported tomorrow? Will I be separated from my family? What will happen to me if I return to my country? These are the questions that haunt them each and every day.

Recently, the topic of immigration has become a prominent issue in both the news and the presidential campaigns. Our country stands divided, while hundreds of thousands of immigrant families await answers.

CNN recently released a story titled “Beyond the Border: Life in Limbo,” which provides readers with a glimpse into the lives of undocumented immigrants living in the United States. It follows an immigrant family across their many trips to immigration meetings, court dates, and throughout their normal, everyday routines. After a few years living in the US, it would seem as though the family should feel comfortable here. Pedro, his wife Angelica, and their teenage son Jesús have become accustomed to their jobs and school schedules, however the constantly looming threat of deportation reminds them that nothing is permanent. They are as comfortable as they can be while living with the perpetual threat of being separated. Their story is not uncommon and provides a rather insightful exploration into the lives of countless undocumented families currently living in America.
