Number of Deaths and Injuries for Distracted Drivers Continue to Rise

Posted on 04/15/15

In recent data collected by Georgia Trial Lawyers Association, every year 4,000 people are killed and 421,000 are injured from crashes caused by distracted drivers. Texting is by far the most dangerous distraction among drivers. Studies have found that texting while driving makes a crash up to 23 times more likely to happen. It is more dangerous than driving intoxicated. A DUI conviction can ruin a person’s career and life. However, texting is not the only form of distraction for drivers. Playing with the radio or air condition, dealing with the kids acting up in the backseat, eating, or putting on make-up while driving are also distractions that lead to car crashes. It is important to never take your eyes off the road, looking away for one second is enough to cause harm to yourself and/or drivers around you.
